Qualifying Bet – Match Betting Types

Qualifying Bet

This is the bet that we need to place in order to earn our first bonus. It is usually the easiest of all the bets and we want to try and keep it pretty simple.

As we are staking our own money in order to earn the free bet, this is obviously a Stake Returned bet. This means that we get our original stake back if the bet wins.

Qualifying Bet – How it works

Example

We place a bet at the odds 3.0 or 2/1 (we’ll try to move away from fractional odds as we always work with decimal odds when Match Betting).

We bet £10.

This means that if our bet wins we earn:

(3 x Stake) = (3 x £10) = £30

So lets imagine we have found a Free Bet that will give us £10 if we register and bet £10.

Our Qualifying bet is therefore the initial £10 that we need to bet in order to obtain our free £10 bet

So what are the Rules for this type of bet – Qualifying Bet?

Qualifying Bet Rules

Stake Returned
Stake Returned
  1. Look for the Shortest Odds in order to maximise our return
  2. Ensure the odds you find meet the minimum requirement in the Term’s & Conditions (if there are any)
  3. Find the closest matching odds between back and lay bets
  4. Always place the Back Bet first, then the Lay

Now we believe we’ve found our odds the next step is completing the Match Betting Spreadsheet so……

Step 1. Fill in the “Bet Stake” box with the amount we are going to bet

In the example above this would be £10

Step 2. As this is a Stake Returned Bet, we enter £0 in the “Stake Forfeit” box.

Step 3. Enter the odds that we have found at our bookmaker and at Betfair.

Back odds (bookmaker) into the “Back Odds” box.
Lay odds (Betfair/Excahnge) into the “Lay Odds” box.

I will use 2.1 Back and 2.2 lay in this example.

Step 4. We’re Finished!

If the odds look ok and the spreadsheet is telling us that we will only lose a small amount on this bet (no greater than £2 as it is only a £10 bet, even that is quite big), then we can go ahead and place our bets.

Alternatively go back and find better odds for less of a loss on the qualifying bet.

Remember it is Qualifying bet so we will always lose a little, however it allows us to access the Free Bet where we recoup this loss.

Now we’ve placed our Qualifying bet, let’s move onto our Free Bet. Simply select below the bet type to proceed.
